My Mandarin died #11
Hi. As you will know my mandarin developed a white fungus. I treated my Orca tank for 3 days with a product by eSHa OODINEX. The fungus did seem to reduce but he just stopped eating completely. I ordered some copepods on line and added some to my tank through the filter system with the light off to try to boost the numbers on the rock but he just seemed to have given up. I even used a long straw to put food right under his nose as he was used to this but he didn't want to know. Anyway, I moved a couple of peces of rock on Thursday because I couldnt see him and he didnt look good and by Friday am he was dead.
I don't know if it is linked but my dancing shrimp has also died. The treatment said Invert friendly so I don't know what happened. He had seemed fine before and I guess it could just be a coincidence. Also. my feather duster who has always been gorgeous has died (i think). Have seen no signs for about 3 days. Any suggestions. is thisall a bad coincidence , bad luck treatment or am i doing something badly wrong?
My water at the moment os showing :
Ph - 7.8 early am
Ph - 8.4 evening
Ammonia - 0
nitrates - 10-20

I have reduced the amountof light time to about 7-8 hours a day now and there has been no algae to note for a couple of weeks.
Other inhabitants (hermit crabs, clown and royal gramma) look great.

Will update photos. Seems a real shame as the tank i thought was looking good and water seemed ok so really not sure where to go.

Re: I think my Mandarin has white spot #12
I have completed the 3 day course for the fungus. No signs of anything else coming dowm with same problem so am hoping it stays that way.
My Ph levels are stil a bit low i think, 7.8 in th e morning and about 8.1 at night. I have added some tufa rock to hopefully knock this up.
There are no corals in the tank but a lot oflive rock.
My mandarin is still going, fungus looks a little better but he has lost so much weight. Have purchased some tiny garlic marine pellets that sink and soften so am hoping he will forage for those. He has started grazing around the tank a bit more since yesterday but he is a skeleton.
Someone suggested breeding c/pods. If there is any extra info on how to do that I will get started.
Gill

Re: Putting gold fish from tank to pond. How do I do it safely? #13
I am sure it provided my neighbours with some entertainment if they could see me!
The pond was there when we moved in (4 years ago). I tend to keep slightly away as it is full of frogs/tadpoles. I counted 67 heads in spring when they came out! It is well shaded which I think is why it does not seem to get algae etc. The water thankfully is always perfectly clear.
I love it now it has the fish in though. Just hoping that they keep on doing well in there.

I am sure that someone much better than me with a camera would do this an easier way. I ended up on climbing up the slide to try and get it all in and failed.Had to take it as a shot from each end of the pond in the end. This photo is the opposite end from where the fish were. Think its a girlie thing (at least that's my husbands opinion!)

Wow. I never really went down to the pond before the goldfish went in. Now it is becoming an obsession! I keep going to see how many of the three fish i can see. Until today I have only been able to catch site of two since they went in last weekend. However, tonight I saw all 3 so raced to get my camera as proof that they are all still alive. Am really chuffed that they look well and are getting used to me going to feed them.

Re: I think my Mandarin has white spot #16
Hi. Having watched him closely for 24 hours I don't think it is white spot but a fungus. It seems worse in the morning and my local shop said this would be due to the lower ph in the am?
I was given a wide range marine treatment by "eshe oodinex" and advised to add a slightly lower than recommended dose because of my dancing shrimp.
I have done an early morning wattest today and results are:
Ph - 7.8
ammonia - 0
nitrate - 5-10

Ona positive note, my itrate level is lower than recently!

Re: I think my Mandarin has white spot #17
Thanks. I have been to my local aquatic store and they have given me a treatment to add to the tank over the next 3 days. As you suggested, they said it sounded like a stress reaction. I am just hopeful that it works and none of the other inhabitants are affected.
With regards to feeding, i am looking into ways to increase the c.pods. I was given lots of conflicting advice and assured that it waould be perfectly happy when I bought it a few months ago. Am obviously learning that they are not that easy to keep!
Thanks for advice

I think my Mandarin has white spot #18
I have a marine tank that is about 6-7 months old. 3 weeks ago I transferred to a 58 litre orca. This was again an established set up (6 months) and contained an Royal Gramma and a clown. I added to this my andarin, duster, shrimp and hermit crabs.
The filter is as per Orca but I have added rowaphosphate remover and nitrate pebbles.
I last did a water change 2 gays ago (about 15%), Last nitrate levels were 20ppm.
Need to et other levels checked asap.
Anyway, I have not seen the Mandaein clearly for a couple of days and was getting worried. Last night i saw him and I am sure he has white spot or marine equivalent.
The bulges above his eyes are white, his lower fin and tail have small white fuzz on and he generally looks unhappy.
All other inhabitants so far look ok.
ave had whitespot in my coldwater tank before but never seen in marine.
What shoul I do?
Gill

Thanks for that Goldy. Have spent the last hour working through that site and learning lots of different things. Am actually looking forward to seeing how they do in the pond and watching them grow even bigger.
Have released 3 into the pond and they are swimming around and seem to love the reeds. So far, so good!
Will have to get some pictures of their new home

Re: Unknown bubbles/algae in my Orca #20
Thanks for all advice. The bubbles have 90% gone as has the "waste" on the water surface. The tank seems to be settling and certainly all fish look well
Thanks
