Re: Best way to dispose of dead fish? #11
Unfortunately a few of mine have taken a trip to the bin recently.

If I buried them I have no doubt the numerous cats in my area would dig them up.

Re: trouble feeding plec #12
You could try feeding some vegetables. I had the smae problem, but if you steam some corgette (put it in a tiny bit of water on a plate and microwave it for 10-20 seconds) then put that in the tank (you cna weight it down with a plant weight or you can buy special screw thingys)

Leave it in overnight and hopefully the plec will eat it after the lights go out. If you don't have corgette you could try some cucumber.

Re: When do you become an expert? #13
I don't think anyone will ever be an expert, there's always someone who knows somthing you don't and vice versa.

Re: Weirdest/most extreme hobby? #14
Quote:
My children think playing the accordion is weird - though they'd describe it as 'random'.

There's not many people who can say they play the accordian, at least not that I know of, Cathie!

The only extreme hobby I participate in is extreme tv watching

Re: Question of the week 20/10 #17
hmm, fishtank maze!

Like Caz i'd have a tank for a red tailed cat. A tank for mudskippers. Oh and a huge tank for more clown loaches

And a tropical pond type feature, replacing the chimney area in the living room with a rocky waterfall style thing.

Re: LFS and plants #18
I've never tried soil type stuff in my tanks yet, i will one day, i think a couple of my plants would have benefited. Most seem to do okay with co2 and liquid stuff.

I think it would be interesting to set up 2 tanks, same plants, just using different methods. I'd like to see the actual difference it makes.

Re: Feeding Garlic #19
My newest attempt is apple rubbed with garlic. Plecs seemed to like it.

I've never tried the garlic as a constipation cure, one of my bristlenoses is always bunged up! Must try that instead of peas one day...

But as Eagle said garlic isn't a medication, you should definately be treating with something like Protozin.

Re: Q Tank #20
I keep my q tanks filter media in one of my other tanks filters, when needed, i set up the Q tank, fill it with water (half new and half from another tank, make sure it's the same temp, then move the media over.

I've never had any problems, and some people do it differently.
