We have a care sheet for Apple Snails here with full details, but basically he needs 20 litres of water and the tank needs to be big enough to hold that with space above the water line for him to come completely out of the water. He also needs quite hard alkaline water and a heater. It would be best if he had a filter, but with regular testing and frequent partial water changes that may not be needed if he's the only occupant.
It would be a good idea to have a look at this page on tank sizes for Goldfish. Sit down first as it may come as a shock to realise that 5 Goldies will need a tank of around 350 litres if they are fancy types (Fantails, Orandas, Ranchus, Moors etc) or 400 litres and 6 feet long if they are Common goldfish - better yet for Commons would be to find someone with a pond they could move to next Spring when the weather warms up.
