From what it seems, you're housing them correctly, nice big tank, external filter, so thats good, I think maybe it's just the water changes aren't frequent enough. Goldfish poo tends to sink to the bottom, and any uneaten food etc gets into the stones, so the filter doesn't actually remove these from the water. So a good gravel clean with a syphon, and water change every week is the only way to keep water quality good. Couple that with neighbours feeding them I'd say they might have gotten too much food maybe, and water quality suffered as a result. Good luck with ignoring the begging, it's VERY hard. |
