The problem is that 1 gallon is absurdly small for a fish that should grow to 8-12" in length. The black you see is the result of ammonia burns and unless the fish gets a much larger tank immediately it will die. Salt is not a cure all and will not in any way help your fish. Obviously you care about your fish or you wouldn't be searching the internet trying to find out what's wrong so please do yourself and your fish a favour and read about the nitrogen cycle and goldfish care in these articles.
