hi.

If the fish shop just said 'plec' I would guess he is a common plec. if he was a bristlenose or anything else, they would have told you i would imagine/hope...

deffo try him with the cucumber with the spoon stuck thru as a weight. he does not need to recognise it, he will know it's food when he smells it! most trops will have a go at it too and this is fine. You will probably find it's prettymuch gone before it has any effect on your water quality. i tend to leave a chunk in for around 4 days as i find some fish/snails wont attempt to eat things until they have had time to 'marinate' in the water for a bit.

generally, my male bristlenose lives off algae and spends lots of time stuck to the slate of his many caves. i also feed him 'pleco wafers' which he eats at night. he is also quite partial to the odd dead fish so if someone pops it during the night, he will eat 'em! I have caught him on a couple of occaisions so i know it's him! i do my daily head count each morning and there is no carcass to be found.....

ps: forgot to say - if he's a common plec, he will get HUGE.
