General Information: Has a bright red body with dark markings along the dorsal fin and around the eyes. Originates from both Fiji and Tahiti. Cirrhitidae Family.
Tank Requirements: SALINITY SG: 1.020 - 1.025
Diet Requirements: Carnivore - diet should include a variety of marine meats, frozen preparations, live mysid and brine shrimp.
Compatibility: Reef Safe. Gets along well with other fish, but may act aggressively towards other bottom-dwelling species (shrimp, Gobies and Blennies). Only keep one specimen per tank.
Recommendations: Ensure there is plenty of live rock for hiding. Generally a peaceful fish that spends most of its time perching and swimming within the branches of hard corals. They are VERY inquisitive.
Common Problems: It will eat Feather Dusters and ornamental shrimps, as well as picking Hermit Crabs and snails out of their shells.
Similar Species: Arc Eye Hawkfish, Blood Red Hawkfish and Red Hawkfish.
Sexing: They begin as females, dominant Flame Hawkfish will become males. There is no visible difference between males and females.
Breeding: They have not been bred in captivity.
