General Information: The Celestial Eye Goldfish has a double-tail without a dorsal fin. Their eyes start out normal and move upwards in a vertical line as the fish matures. The fish is rather delicate and sensitive to the cold so a warmer tank is advisable although not tropical.
Tank Requirements: Fancy Goldfish, given correct conditions can grow very large, which means they are not suitable long term for small aquaria. See Minimum Tank Volume and Minimum Tank Size above.
Diet Requirements: Goldfish are omnivorous - they will eat pellets/flake, green foods and most live foods such as bloodworm.
Compatibility: Other Fancy Goldfish
Recommendations: Best kept with similar types with poor eyesight, like Bubble Eyes and Black Moors/Telescope Eye Goldfish as they have to rummage around for food. it is also recommended to allow at least 8 UK gallons per Fancy Goldfish to allow for growth.
Common Problems: Poor eyesight
Similar Species: Bubble Eye and Telescope Eye Goldfish
Sexing: Males have white spots on their gill plates and front edge of pectoral fins: breeding tubercles. These should not be confused with the disease white spot. Females develop a deeper body and have a larger vent (just before the anal fin) than the males.
Breeding: They need to be kept in tanks free of entanglements and without strong overhead lighting. Parents will eat the eggs so must be removed immediately after spawning.
