General Information: The Bronze Cory is also available in Albino, Green and Longfin varieties. A great addition to any community tank, they should be provided with hiding places such as bog wood, caves and large plants. Sometimes you will see them take a gulp of air from the surface- this is an alternative method of getting oxygen, allowing them to survive in low-oxygen level water.
Tank Requirements: Sand substrate to allow them to dig without injury. Provide rocks and bogwood for hiding places.
Diet Requirements: Omnivorous. They will take most pellet food and algae wafers. Also like live and frozen foods such as bloodworm and daphnia.
Compatibility: These are peaceful fish which are compatible with most similar sized community fish.
Recommendations: All Cories should be kept in groups of at least 6. It's best to have just one type of Cory in a shoal. Do not add salt as a treatment or tonic as these fish are sensitive to salt.
Common Problems: Barbel damage, usually caused by gravel. This can be avoided by providing a sand substrate which will not damage the barbels.
Similar Species: Most Corydoras are quite similar in appearance and size.
Sexing: The female is larger and slightly wider than the male. This is most apparent when she is gravid.
Breeding: Very easily achieved in a species tank. Condition with a varied diet and use a 2:1, male:female ratio for best results. Reduce water level and remove parents after spawning.
