General Information: Large typical South American cichlid primarily from Ecuador. Small mouth, chunky body, powerful build, blue shades with dark spots, green and blue irridescent spots. Similar to the Blue Acara when young, but much larger when adult. Often has red/pink hues near gills.
Tank Requirements: Ideally 75-100 gallons or more for pairs. Single specimens could be kept in 60 gallons. Caves, rocks and bogwood. Plants will probably be uprooted unless tied to rocks/wood.
Diet Requirements: Omnivore with carnivorous bias. Takes cichlid and carnivore pellet based diet, with many frozen live food treats: fish, shrimp, worms and shellfish pieces. May take blanched vegetables.
Compatibility: Territorial and aggressive. Singles can be kept with fish of a similar size and temperament or with large and robust shoaling species. Pairs best kept alone in a species tank.
Recommendations: Plenty of space and territory room, keep pairs separate from other fish especially when breeding.
Common Problems: Underfeeding, hexamita and parasites, fighting injuries to lips and fins, premature aging in overly warm aquaria.
Similar Species: Many similar species of which this is the largest.
Sexing: Males larger with slightly more impressive fins and nuchal hump when mature, females darker on average.
Breeding: Easy to breed in a pair only tank. Substrate spawners who dig pits for the young. Keep temps at high end for fry survivability and egg maturation.

 Andinoacara

these are now Andinoacara, although 99% of Green Terrors in the hobby are actually Andinoacara aequinoctalis. Most of the others are A. stalsbergi from Peru.
