Maximum Size: 5cms

Minimum Tank Size: 24 inches long
Water Temperature Range: 24-28°C

General Information: Commonly known as the X-Ray Tetra for its transluscent body, the Pristella has a silver body-sack covering internal organs and a red tail. Fins (especially dorsal) are white, black and yellow barred.
Tank Requirements: Does well in most set-ups, though very bare tanks don't do it justice. Looks at its best in an Amazon biotope setting with black water, rocks, roots and sandy substrate with subdued lighting.
Diet Requirements: Unfussy, naural micropredator. In the aquarium it will take flake and pellets as well as live/frozen foods.
Compatibility: Peaceful. Not as timid as some some reports say, so long as they're kept in groups of 6 or more. Does best with other species from the same locale - Dwarf Cichlids, Cories, Pencil Fish, Hatchet Fish, or with Rasboras, Barbs, Loaches or Livebearers depending on water hardness.
Recommendations: Planted tank with plenty of swimming space.
Common Problems:
Similar Species: Other species of Tetra
Sexing: Males tend to be slimmer than females.
Breeding: Spawns relatively freely in soft water. Fry very small/delicate and hard to raise to adulthood
