Time to dose nitrates?
Category: Coldwater

Author: Onyxia (10:31 pm)
The plants are definitely paying off.

My nitrates are down to 10-20 ppm. Got it tested in the LFS this time and we agreed definitely closer to 10. The lady was so suprised she even double checked it for me. Also pleased to say that the brown algae has totally gone. Have small patches of hair and green spot but nothing too bad touch wood.

Made a couple of changes to the left side, mostly for the benefit of my baby plec. He has spent the last few days pushing gravel about and making his new caves more comfy.

Just revamped my shrimp tank with a hang on the back filter to free up space for more shrimp inside the tank and more plants outside. Hoping to replicate the success of the big tank.

 Re: Lovely looking Aquariums
Thanks :)

Peace lilly
pilea 'moon valley'
aluminium plant
parlour palm
painted begonia
tradescantia blossfeldiana
fittonia (red and pink varieties)
spider plant

Not sure if these two will survive long term but they are doing ok at the moment:

peperomia
silver lace fern

The bulb is a 13w 'daylight' cfl (6400k. You can get them from most lighting shops and theres loads on ebay. Just search for 'SAD daylight bulb' or similar.

The plants are in the overhead filter so they get a flow of well oxygenated tank water over their roots.
