Nothing like a Betta vase

Just gotten round to upgrading my 3'clearseal tank so Im going to record its progress. I've got the 330l All Pond Solutions tank that's so popular on here.

I want it to be a more spacious home form my paradise fish and Ive been planning for a while about trying some riparium techniques. For anyone who hasn't seen them its about growing river bank plants, usually in pots stuck to the side of your aquarium. Most of the pot sits in the water and that fertilises the plants.

Delivery went better than I expected with the delivery man getting the tank all the way into the lift for me with the words "don't worry its not that heavy". Me and my husband only just managed to slide it out of the lift. Obviously the two of us together are no where near as strong as that delivery man.

Anyone considering getting this tank should definitely have two people wait in for it. Although its not strictly a curbside delivery, the driver is clearly on a clock and the pallet will not go through a single door.

This is the tank in place and filling (using a pump).

I have a layer of soil under the gravel from my old tank (complete with assassin snail babies) but as you can see from the water colour its no where near deep enough.

This picture is a whole week later after Ive had chance to get more substrate. I ended up with JBL Manado which is a red clay based stuff. It wouldn't have been my first choice but it was that or pea gravel. I'm desperate to get my fish out of the really useful box that they have been living in all week. Not that they seem to mind, Bob is already nesting in it and gets quite upset when I start to move the water into the new tank.

Finally filled! It took a couple of days so the fish could adjust slowly. Basically drip filled the tank using the really useful box and a small aquarium pump.

The peace lillies are in!

Just to be clear I have an external filter in the cabinet to process ammonia/nitrite The tank also comes with a powerhead which pumps water into 5 overhead filter trays in the tank lid. I have filled two of these trays with hydrocote (hydroponic growing medium) capped with gravel. The peace lillies are planted directly into the tray so they should get really good water flow over their roots. I'm hoping that they will act as a nitrate filter once they settle in. Obviously not got results yet but I will share them once I have. Worst case scenario I have some nice pot plants :)
