I have received the PFK 25L (1'x1'x1')tank and would like to set it up as a basic marine tank. I know that I don;t have much space for fancy corals and stuffs so I am thinking of maybe a few pieces of live rock and a percula clown in it :)
I have read that the filteration in reef tank is done through live rock and life sand, is it possible just to rely on 2 internal filters just like fresh water aquarium? Thanks! |

I'm not too sure about the fish, but another member on here was going to turn it into a small marine tank with coral or live rock

i wouldnt, too small for a clown really. mine is set-up as marine, got live rock & sand as the only bioloical filtration, my piece of sun coral, 2 snails, 3 sexy shrimp. got the filter as a mechanical filter only with only fine floss, which gets changed once/twice a week. it is a bit of a pain as i have to constantly top it up to keep salinity in check, as well as a weekly water change. dont think that light that comes with it would be good enough for any photosynthetic corals, but you could have some not light dependant corals.
having biological filters in a tank this size i think would cause a problem with nitrate build up as thats what biological filters do in produce nitrates, which would mean more, bigger water changes. just using live rock does not leave lots of nitrates in the water, as some nitrate is also used in the depths of the live rock. IMHO i dont see the point of spending money on live rock if a filter system is being used. you may be ok with a rock goby or two if you must have fish- they only get an inch long! very cute too, but i would go with rock only for the biolocgiacl filtration, just keep media in filter clean as its quite powerful so flow is acceptable, would like to have another little pump in mine to increase water circulation, but space, money, and plug sockets are all limiting factors at the mo! |

yea i was gonna do it myself, but cant be bothered
do like 'er above has said, if you want fish, get either a clown goby and/or a black/white ray goby you'll want about 2 snails and a couple of sexy shrimp like 'er above as well |

Thanks for the advice Gill and DL! Just as I thought the tank is too small.... oh well, maybe I should just keep it as tropical tank
or trade it in for a bigger one |

nah, it's not too small, it'll just be more work than a bigger tank, although water changes are easy, but you could only have like one fish, maybe 2 at a push

hold on to it, it would make a nifty little quarantine tank in an emergency?

After a little resurch on the PFK deal tank. I have found a shop that sell compact lamps of the Aqua-Qube 11w for marine use.
http://www.stm-shop.co.uk/acatalog/co ... _Wave_Box_nano_Tanks.html I have seen the 30L nano tank STM have on their shop counter it's really cool and nicley stocked. I am thinking of setting up my 25L Qube as a nano reef too after seeing how well they have done. lookin at this spec. 2 Kgs Live Sand 3 Kgs Live Rock 200L hr hang on Filter (with Polyfiler media) 11w Compact 50/50 bulb 50w Heater RO water with mix of Nutri-Seawater |

Thanks Trickyuk! I have looked at the STM website and I think a 25L marine tank is the way to go :) I thought I have to replace the lighting that come with the tank but now it is even better just to replace the bulb!!! I have got some marine salt, 2 small internal filters (to aid water movement) and 50W heater at hand...
