Hi everyone!

Just joined and i need a little advice. I've had my tank for about 10 years and want to put it in another room in my house. Thing is i'm not sure where would be the best place or worst place to put it. I have two geriatric goldfish who are bouncing around in a 83 litre tank and i'm planning on getting them a few friends and as such would like to put them where they will be better seen and enjoyed.
I have a six sided conservatory and would like to have it against one of the brick walls where everyone will see it. The temperature is fairly constant and blinds are pulled when the sun is strong. Do you think this would be a bad idea? I'd appreciate any help.

Angela

Hi and welcome,

As long as there are no drastic temperature fluctuations (maybe add a heater set to 20C just in case there are drops overnight in winter) and there won't be so much light hitting the tank that you get a massive overgrowth of algae, the location ought to be fine.

However, the tank is too small to add any more fish. In reality it's really much too small for two Goldfish. Have a look at this article which explains how big and how fast they grow and the size of tank they need, and why.

You say they are "geriatric". How old are they and how big? Are they Fancy Goldfish (with a double tail) or Common Goldfish (with a single tail, like you'd see in a pond)?

Things to consider when siting the tank:
*Is it close to a frequently used door which may disturb the fish?
*Is there a electricity supply near by?
*Would it be easy to clean the tank? In the new position?
*Are there any draughts?
*Is it close to a busy road where heavy traffic may disturb the fish?
*If it is in a conservatory does it get much hotter at night or cold at night?
*Also avoid kitchens as cooking fumes may affect the fish, and the temperature can fluctuate a lot when cooking.

I would worry about algae unless you will always keep the blinds down. Even weak sun can create an algae bloom.

Have you thought about something like: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/pon ... ature-pool-half-moon.html

Would be amazing in a conservatory and if you just wipe down the port holes every now and again it would hide all sorts of algae related sins ;)

Also more than enough space for a new friend or two for your goldies.

*edit: scrap the comment about friends, its much smaller than I thought it was. Still looks nice though.

We Have a conservatory which opens right thought into our kitchen/Diner, in winter it sits around 16 Degrees, then in summer its 18 at night and on a sunny day can hit 30-34,

I have a tank in the Kitchen, i have less heat fluctuations in the tank since the conservatory was built, but i would not want to keep a tank in the conservatory its self, the reason,

i did a test with a 56ltr tank,no heater and a filter running, in the conservatory the water temp on a sunny day sat around the 26-27 mark but itt dropped to 14 at night.

i would not like to keep a tank in there,

i would have one of those half moons lol, but not with the kids.
