Hi All,
Im new to this site and am looking for a bit of advice for my newly aquired pond of the house I recently moved into. A bit of background to start with... the pond appears to have been left to look atfer itself for a few years. Currently no pumps, filters etc and the pond is well established. Lots of algae, duck week, a couple of small plants, about 10 fish and a few frogs... possibly more. The waters very green and mucky and was covered in leaves and weed when i turned up. Ive cleaned the surface now but the water is still very green/murkey and lots of sludge on the bottom. Id like to get a pump/filteration system for it but so much on offer I dont know where to start. Any help would be appreciated. The pond is (almost) round and holds about 1200-1400l of water. Its about 70cm deep in the middle but could be topped up. I dont really want to spend mega amounts of money but would like clear, clean & healthy water with the intention of keeping a couple of koi in the future Thanks in advance.. Tom |

HI, welcome to FK
![]() Until one of the pondies turns up, any chance you could post some pics of the pond, always helpful? I would expect you to be told it's not big enough for koi, I think the minimum depth recommended is 4 ft + ... |

as has been said it would be too small for koi, 4500L is a rough minimum as a small pond for koi
if you want cheap and easy then go for the hozelock easyclear 9000 (biggest one in range) and you wont have to clean it much once its had an initial clear out When the weather warms up abit more (end march/start of april) i'd suggest removing as much sludge, any leaves and do a small 25% water change to get some mineral back into the pond as it's likely to have a low pH etc leave in as much of the submerged plant matter as possible, then add the filter system and as it has a built in uv clarifier you will see the water clearing within a week or two |

Good quality costs. Bear this in mind before you start.
