Just wondering what you guys here feed your fancy goldies.
Have been reading up and some sites say no floating food at all, some say to soak food first?
The other day at my LFS I saw the staff feeding the massive Oranda's and Ryukins with just general looking flakes.. is this wrong?
All of Percy's food sinks, and I'm sure he misses most of it and it just goes into the gravel, just fed him for the first time in the new setup and I have no idea if he actually got any at all!
At the moment Percy eats Hikari lionhead (sinks) some other fancy goldfish pellets (Sinking) .. frozen tubifex worms and peas, he also loves an algae wafer, not sure if those are good for him? Read about them liking fruit like oranges too so might try him on a bit of that.. So many things to consider with these fishies, I had no idea!

Sinking pellets are your best choice, and encourages natural feeding habits.

From a LFS point of view the livestock usually receive the same food throughout the store . Species specific foods such as sinking pellets, Discus granules and live foods are not always given. A good LFS will feed the correct diet and will be happy to show you not only what they sell but what they feed as well.

HI
How is Percy now? is he settled in and looking OK? Enjoying his new home?
In terms of feeding I have 2 fancies and I feed sinking pellets, peas, broccoli (cooked a bit first to soften it), orange, water melon, cucumber, also the Tetra Delica bloodworm, brineshrimp and daphnia. Don't worry about food on the floor, he'll hoover it up, and any that isn't will be cleaned up by gravel vac.
BTW with the frozen tubifex etc make sure you remove as much water as poss and rinse it in a bit of tank water first as the frozen water can contain phosphates and other nasties. Thats why i use the Tetra Delica, its already prepared - anything for an easy life.

Oh yeah I read about the tubifex worms, his aren't frozen, sorry they are freeze dried so there's no actual ice or water.
Percy is doing well I think, he looks happy, swimming about in all his new space, he likes to swim in the bubbles from the bubble stone, I think he sets himself a challenge to try and swim to the bottom of them :)
I'm doing a water change everyday and checking the ammonia and nitrite levels everyday too.
Thanks for the advice on feeding :)

My goldies love swimming in the bubbles too!! Glad to hear he is settling in well. Once your cycled you won't have to keep doing daily changes.
