I know this sounds strange, but I would actually like some algae to grow in my tank for my pleco's. I have the aquarium lights on for around 10 hours a day. Do you guys have any tips for growing algae in my tank?

Thanks in advance!

It's just finished its cycle and I added the fish just over a week ago (I don't really expect to see any algae yet).

It will take a while as Algae like any living organism requires the right conditions and nutrients to grow. This will come as the tank matures. Dont rush to get the algae as when you do get it you will be fighting to keep it at bay normally. There are several different types of algae (Google algae for species) as well and you require the right type to feed any plecs or algae eating fish.

Dont rush it, feed any plecs on algae wafers as they will need a regular supply, you will also need to feed them on vegetables such as courgette, cucumber, lettuce, and meat based foods such as shrimp. Many people make the mistake of thinking plecs live solely on algae, but this is generally very wrong. They need a balanced diet like any other fish. Requiring more meat as they grow, a few are totally herbivorous.

Thanks for the advice :) It is much appreciated

I already feed them (a bulldog pleco and a leopard sailfin pleco) algae wafers and cucumber.

Just a reminder that for the health of these fish you need sort out the issues pointed out to you in reply to your previous post here:

http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=31229

Your tank is very overstocked with incompatible fish and a mix of tropical and coldwater. At the moment the tank temp is too low for the tropicals you have and these issues need addressing quite urgently.

Yep got to agree with Noodle after reading that original thread. You have some fish that are totally wrong for your tank for one reason or another. A bit of thinning out as needed as soon as possible.
