Hi, Iv got a 50 gallon warm tank, it’s been ticking over for just over two years, and I wish to ask, Is there any point when you should totaly empty and clean your tank? almost Restart? |

Definitely not, doing that could wipe out the bacteria in the filter. You should only ever change 50% of the water at one time, replacing with dechlorinated water as always. More than 50% change should only be performed if you have issues with water params(ammonia, nitrite etc.)
If you find you have a really nitrate reading I think I am right in saying it's better to do a 50% change leave it a few hours and do another 50% change. You should always try and leave the filters running or the bacteria in the filter could die off due to lack of oxygenated water. But they should be fine for about an hour especially in a very well established tank like yours. Maybe longer not 100% on that |
