My tubes stopped working on my juwel light bar so i brought 2 new ones but still wont work.(its a 42 inch twin)
Upon seeing the cost of a new light bar i thought i would have a look to see if it was repairable. I found thread on here from last year and decided to open it up. Problem is my ballast doesnt look like the one in thread i think mine may be magnetic but im not sure, can i replace a magnetic ballast with a electronic one? I enclose a picture of the ballast, i only have 1 lead from the ballast to each tube older where most ive seen on net seem to have 2? Any help much appreciated Jason |

Forgot to mention the middle lead of the 3 top left of pic splits into 2 before it gets to the tube holders making the 4 leads to the tube holders.

I've not known anyone to be able to repair the ballast in a tube light. You would need to buy a new ballast for each tube, about £6 each. The new starters (includes the ballast) are fairly easy to understand, two wires go to each end of the tube and then there is the power lead.
When my Juwel light bar packed up, I tried to fix it but eventually realised it was les effort and safer to just buy a new light bar. |

Just had a look on the net and they have shot up in price, they are about £25 each now! Better off buying a new I bar as 2 sarters will cost £50.

Just to Hijack for one moment,
what would happen if you used a 15 watt bulb in a 20 watt Ballast unit ? I have a spare 20watt Unit it srtates 20w on the lable on the back how ever printed on the ballast, is 18w x1 20w x1 24w x1 does this mean i can use 18 20 or 24 watt bulbs, on the ballast on my 8w it says 4w x1 6w x1 8w x1 4w x2 it does say on the box i can use 4w 6w or 8w bulbs (i use this on my quarantine tank) |

Hi. A 20 watt ballast will drive any tube up to 20 watts as far as I know. A 30 watt tube for example would not light up if you used a 20 watt ballast.
