Hello folks,

As some of you might know I'm going to be moving from Scotland to Leeds this month. I need to figure out how to transport my fish! The tank will go with the removals van (we're getting professionals!) but the fish will come with me in the car.

I know that the filter bacteria will die off in a few hours, but the car trip will take at least 6 hours (I'll be taking the cats at the same time so will be driving slowly and am scheduling kitty comfort breaks).

I remember reading somewhere that one could get an air pump and stone, connect it to the 12V power in the car, and keep the bacteria alive that way... Did I imagine that or did someone here attempt it?

Thanks

Thanks V! I saw that already but it's not the one I'm looking for...

I think I get the idea for transporting fish, but what about the filter media? It will all die off in the journey, so I need a way to keep the bacteria alive

This will do the job - insulate the bucket with bubble wrap to keep warm and use one of these.

Parfait!!! Thank you Fishlady

Just a few more questions: How much water should I take the media in? And should I feed the bucket with fishfood/ ammonia before the journey or will it be ok?

Use enough water to cover the media in whatever container you use. No need to feed the bacteria over a journey of less than 24 hours.

Thank you FL, I feel much more confident now!

Critch - great idea! I'll check that out too. Suspect it will come down to which option is cheapest
