Evening,
I need some more plants for my tank, one of the occupants being Cherry Shrimp. I understand that Tropica plants are shrimp safe - can anyone recommend a good online retailer for Tropica? Or are there any other retailers of plants which are suitable for shrimp tanks? Many thanks, Emma |

Well, I couldn't order from Seapets, delivery times didn't work out then i'm away for a few days etc, but Pets At Home down the road had a lovely, healthy looking selection of Tropica, delivery came in this morning, so I got three bunches and three pots.
Came home, rinsed them in Primed water, popped them in the tank and withing half an hour the shrimp started swimming about as if in distress, so i've pulled the plants out, Primed the tank and stuck some carbon in the filter and everyone seems to be ok. The pots were definitely labelled Tropica but the bunches, with nice little ceramic weights, weren't so i'm wondering if they aren't from the same source. Emailed Pets At Home and waiting for a reply and in the meantime am soaking in my alkaline, hard tapwater with a big dose of Prime, will then soak in carbonated water then in RO for couple of days before trying in the tank again. Pretty sure my little shrimp have been rendered infertile by the original poisoning a few weeks ago as haven't seen a berried female since. |

Thanks Monoxide, if these ones are a no go then I'll stick some silk ones in for the time being and have a drive to seapets when I get back and if there's nothing in the store I can order online from them or aqua essentials. think I need a separate tank for shrimp next time!

I spent a year just getting a few plants right in my tank! Look in particular at the tropica 1 - 2 grow range. First place I have purchased plants from and all have lived with no snail or chemical issues.

Yes I think I might go with them, really like the idea of a nice little shrimp only tank with just one or two types of plant in there, maybe a little thorny nerite and a bit of redmoor root or something. Just need to convince the other half now!
