One thing I will say, bob is looking well, very deep blacks with a nice white belly, full body and his fins are flowing (not torn anymore)
Wish I didn't have to see him bobbing upside down for the first half of the evening he was upside down quite a lot, for the second half he seems fine, rather strange |

It's sounding like it might have been a bit of a coincidence if he's still troubled after all this time
They should only have caused problems while they were in his system really. Unless he's intolerant to them and they've irritated his guts In which case a couple of days fast could help. One of the few things my pearlscale could eat reliably was algae wafers, the Ocean Nutrition ones with spirulina worked very well for her.The rest of his progress sounds great though In all honesty he was so very ill at the start that you've both done wonders to get him this far regardless of a bit of bobbing about ![]() |

Hmm, I think he may be on his way out, laying upside down on the gravel. He still breathing for now but don't look promising
![]() Edit to add, he up and swimming about again (well right side up at least near the top of the tank) Will fast him for a couple days as suggested, is this the food you mentioned? http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aqu ... algae-wafers-75g-tub.html |

Yes, that's the stuff
![]() I had a comet, Jerry, a while ago who, similar to Bob, had spent four years in a bowl and then a 30 litre 'bowl shaped tank'. He was seriously unwell and I once found him upside-down on the bottom, drifting about, gills barely moving. By the time I'd phoned Mr S in a panic and gone to find the clove oil he was zipping about looking for dinner! Fish like Jerry and Bob have been through it a bit and sometimes they just don't cope for a while for some reason. Sadly Jerry was just too ill to recover completely and he died after a few months, but while I had him he had a nice big tank, better food etc. Every day Bob is still there is great, you just have to take it one day at a time with him ![]() |

I read your thread about jerry some time ago which had a large influence in me trying to help bob. Was quite an eye opener seeing the photos.
I checked the ph on the tank and mix bucket and they both seemed to be 7.4. I have now done the change, he don't seem to be to fussed about the prime mixed in. One thing I have noticed is he seems to have another bubble come up (on his face in exactly the same place as previously which then popped) Do you think this could be caused be the constant reading of 0.25 amonia? |

Yes it could possibly be. Ammonia can cause sores and skin reactions, especially long term.
Although 0.25 is low, it's enough to be a problem, especially as the pH has previously been so high - ammonia is more toxic to fish at higher pH levels. Now you are using Prime it will neutralise the ammonia, although in its neutralised state it will still show on your test. To be sure the tank is free from toxic ammonia you can get a Seachem Ammonia Alert if you want to. This sticks to the tank glass and changes colour depending on how much free ammonia is present. It doesn't react to ammonia in its neutralised state after dosing with Prime so will reassure you that the water is safe or Bob. |
