One of my little Threadfins doesnt look well. He looks like he has tiny air bubbles on him(best I can describe) and one of his eyes has gone red.
Only new addition to the tank is some shrimp but I did spill some LFS water into the tank. Could it be whitespot?
All others look happy and healthy.
I only have a 10 litre tank spare to quarantine him in(but he is only 2cm).
I have a spare filter but the media has only been in the main tank for a week so few bacteria on it(can do daily water change). I dont have a spare heater but could get one by tonight. Would he be ok at room temp until then.
Will test tank when Ive finished feeding the baby and will try to get a pic but he is tiny.
He has also always looked thinner than the rest.
Help please?

Have quarantined him in small tank with fresh dechlorinated water and have put a blanket on tank to hold warmth in. Anything else?. Honey and lemon?
Should I buy any meds?

Hi

Whitespot looks like the fish has been sprinkled with salt. Red eyes aren't usually a symptom of whitespot. If you can post a pic it may help.

I was going to hold off on mentioning this as I don't want you to panic, but it could possibly be mycobacteriosis, also known as Fish TB. The symptoms are right for that, but bear in mind similar symptoms can occur with any diseases, so it could be something else.

However, I thought it best to mention this now as it can be transmitted to humans. While it's not life-threatening to us, it can cause a very unpleasant and painful skin problem that requires antibiotics to treat.

Because Rainbows are very suceptible to it and many carry it, I would advise that you take precautions when working on the tank until we know what ails him. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands. If you have any cuts, abrasions or similar, don't put your hands in the tank until they're healed.

Eek that sounds serious but I would rather be prepared for the worst than get a nasty surprise. If it is will it spread to the others?
I went into the LFS and they were not sure what could be the problem. They sold me some Myxazin(sp-bottles in other room)but to be fair they wanted to see fish before selling me something but I couldnt get him down there til monday and tbh didnt really want to travel a sick fish.
He is now in the 10 litre by himself with a heater, plant and some food(has eaten a little)but no filter. Is it worth setting up the filter when the media has only been in main tank a week? Or do I just do a daily water change(what%?)

Certainly *looks* quite like a bacterial problem. Of which kind, it could be a few

Myaxin is a really good all rounder though, as is Esha 2000.

From the Waterlife site:
Quote:
MYXAZIN lowers the count of harmful bacteria in aquarium water, treating Fin Rot, Body Rot, Ulcers, Sores and other bacterial infections. MYXAZIN will also help to control Pop - Eye Disease, Cloudy Eyes and Mouth Fungus. MYXAZIN should be used daily until symptoms disappear (typically this would be between 3 and 5 applications).

See how he fairs for a day or two with treatment, fins crossed.

Sorry the bottom pic out of focus, you cant really see how thin he is but the top pic is a fair representation poor boy.
I will start the Myxazin this evening now Ive got the go ahead from people I trust!. Do I do the main tank too or just wait and see?
I know you dont have a crystal ball but do things like this normally spread?
What do I do about the filter/water changes in his tiny tank? If Im doing water changes I will be diluting the med so how do I deal with the ammonia?
Thanks for the help-fishy and I appreciate it

It's the thinness that's a bit worrying as it's not typical of simple bacterial infection. The fact that he's been thin for a while and now has these symptoms is a little worrying. Try the Myxazin though as it could be something less sinister.

Don't treat the main tank at the moment if none of the other fish are showing symptoms. If it's a simple bacterial issue it's not likely to be particularly contagious, so best not to add meds if not needed.

Regarding using Myxazin whilst doing daily partial changes: you'll need to do some arithmetic to work out how much medication you're removing with the changes and then add that on to the next day's dose.

Maths never was my strong point!.
It says to add 1 drop per litre of water per day for 5 days so I have added 10 drops today.
If I do a 10% water change on day two then I add 10 drops+1 for the 10% water ive taken out?. Does it make a difference to the strength of the med that I havent got a filter running and it says not to overdose the tank.
How much water should I change daily?
