There are a couple of plants which dont really do well on it,
cannot remember of the top of my head, one of them is hair grass and i think another carpeting plant, used by alot of aquascapers, you need to use C02 gas for them to prosper.

I have used the following two products,
Most popular is easy carbo,
I now use Aqua carbon by AE Design, cos it's cheaper per ml than easycarbo,

Vallis prefers slightly harder water setups, takes a while to settle in soft water, hates being in the filter outlet flow, does better with substrate fert tabs than liquid ferts,
Oh and when you trim it, cut it at 45 degree angle, or it dies back.

Vallis is one of the plants that reacts badly to liquid carbon. If you are going to use it start at a half does and let it adjust slowly.

Ive never had much luck with vallis myself. I have one solitary plant thats hanging on in the back of the tank but its not exactly thriving XD

What kind of Vallis do you have Freddie84? I've grown Vallis torta (straight vallis despite the name) without liquid ferts but with substrate fertiliser and it was rampant. They are predominately root feeders, as already pointed out by Critch.

CO2 (injection or liquid additive) shouldn't be absolutely necessary for Vallis but depending on what other plants you have could be beneficial in general. I've had less success with the twisted vallis though. As already pointed out they prefer harder water as well. Valiis is fairly tolerant of a wide range of light conditions, though would always benefit from brighter lighting.

I have the same Vallis in my tank for 4 years,
Started with a bunch of 4 plants, I reckon it took 6-8 months before it settled in, then it grew to the point I was trimming it weekly, and lots of runners were being sent out, I filled 7 tanks at one point just from the original 4 plants,
This was the jumbo version of Vallis,

Yet I cannot grow the twisted version even after 2 years of trying
