Hi all,
I have 2 blue rainbows and 3 yellow rainbows, the yellows were sold as bosemani rainbows but I've seen a few articles which show a difference and I'm led to believe their yellow and not bosemani...not a worry though, I still live them. Anyway, I have seen one of the blues breeding with one of the yellows, it happened the other night and a large ploom of eggs were dispersed.unfortunately my other fish are eating the eggs before anything can come of them. I don't have a spare tank to create a breeding area for them and can't afford to buy one plus all the extra equipment to maintain it :( Am I to accept that no matter how much they breed, any eggs are doomed, or is there anything else I could do? It'll be gutting if I can't do anything to save any future eggs, I've been praying for them to breed and "hopefully" create a hybrid rainbow, if you will! :) On the plus my bristlenose catfish babies are thriving, 4 black ones and one albino with a black tail :) ...they will be taken to my lfs once bug enough as I can't afford the space loss with 5fully grown catfish :/ Thanks for reading, I hope I can save some eggs somehow, be a shame if I can't :( Dorsy |

Interbreeding is generally frowned on and you may struggle to sell any fry you raise.
Your best bet to save them though is a breeding net. You pop the eggs in, usually with some java moss and just hope for the best really. You probably want to buy a bottle of fry food too. |

Hybrids are very undesirable and unfortunately it's happened a lot with Rainbows to the extent that in some species it's almost impossible to find pure specimens among tank bred stock. BoesmaniRainbows are one of the species where you can almost guarantee they are not pure, which may be why yours don't look as they should.
It would be wiser not to allow breeding between these as it will be hard to move the offspring on as hybrids are not very marketable and it would be difficult to find anyone to take them. It wouldn't even be possible to describe what you would be offering for sale/rehoming as they won't be anything specific. |
