hi, all
just bought seechem prime does it give u false readings on ammonia api test kit. alot people say it does, its first time i have used it any info wuld be gr8 going to buy ammonia alert disc are they any good cheers |

Seachem say you can get false positive results with ammonia tests using Prime with the reagents that API tests use because they measure TOTAL ammonia. The ammonia alert measures only FREE I.e. toxic ammonia so you need to get one if you are using Prime to lock ammonia.

Just to add to that - Prime won't show positive if there is no ammonia present. The problem is that the tests can't differentiate between toxic ammonia (NH3) an "locked", safe ammonium (NH4+). If it's showing positive, then there IS ammonia present, it's just that Prime has made it safe. The cause of the ammonia still needs to be identified and dealt with.
