I'v recently brought my guppy population back up to the minimum recommended to 6 - i do have a slight concern over 2 of the original guppies but that's been covered in different topic.
I'm looking to add something else to the tank but i'm running out of ideas what else to add. I seem to be restricted by tank size and PH at this time. Tank size is 60L, i think measure 60 x 30 x 35. Current tank parameters are Ph 8 GH 12 KH 6 I've tried seriouslyfish.com but unfortuantely their search function leaves a lot to be desired (returning 3ft fish for my tank!). I've looked mainly at something different from livebearers so looked at x ray tetras and Dwarf neon rainbowfish. However both appear to have a max PH of 7.5. Other rainbowfish go to Ph of 8, but they are too big for my tank. I need something that is compatible with guppies but is preferably not a livebearer. In the livebearer category i can only really see platies being the answer and i've had them previously and fancy something different. Anyone have any suggestions on what else i could look at and also whether the x ray's or DNR would work in my tank even if my PH is slightly above their max? Cheers Steve |

Hi
Firstly, never be tempted to keep fish outside their quoted acceptable range. The ranges quoted go from one extreme to the other in tolerance and even the extreme ends of tolerance are not ideal long term. Here are a few quick suggestions: Cherry Barb (Puntius titteya) Forktail Rainbowfish (Pseudomugil furcatus) Indian Glass Fish (Parambassis ranga) |

Thanks as always FL. I did notice the Indian Glass fish but did read it was quite hard to get hold of, i'll see if my local has it.
Would Cherry Barb's be a bad one with guppies, are they not known for fin nipping (i may be thinking of something else!) I'll have a look at the forktails too, i must have missed this in the list of rainbowfish. Steve |

Cherry Barbs are less nippy than most other Barbs - the worst offenders in the family are Tiger Barbs and they've given all Barbs a bad name. If you kept a group of six Cherries you should be OK as they're pretty peaceful and will tend to stay together in a group as long as you have enough of them.
