Indeed it is When I posted a pic of Pixie on PFK once Jeremy Gay told me he was a wakin.@ the OP - are you sure the fantails are fantails in the fancy goldfish sense? If that doesn't sound too daft! Quite a few people think comet goldies are fantails because they have big single tails shaped like fans, but fantails refers specifically to a type of fancy goldfish with a double tail, although it seems quite a generic term for a double tailed goldie as well ![]() The trouble with fancies in ponds over winter is often to do with their dodgy digestive systems and general lack of hardiness. Long finned varieties can suffer finrot due to a lack of good circulation at the best of times which is exacerbated by cold temperatures slowing down their body functions and damaging delicate tissues at the extremities. |

Just looked at your photo suey. I agree he's a great wakin specimen. See how his tail is flat and his spine curves down? Wakin are best viewed from above as they are breed for ponds, they are winter hardy. (I did some looking into them yesterday. Apparently they are the mist common fish in Japan and they use the term wakin for both wakin.
