help! whats going on with my pond fish? |

i have 2 red fantails 4 goldfish 4 shubunkins. i have had them about a week and half. everything was great til i woke this morning. one shubunkin is following a red fantail very closely and will not leave it alone another goldfish is harrasing another gold fish and this gold fish was floating on its side as if it were exhausted? can any one help please? the rest of the fish seem very very lively??

Sounds like it's spring time to be honest. If there is anyway of separating the exhausted one to give her a chance to recover that would
be good. How big is the pond and how long has it been established? JON |

hi jon. thank you for your reply. the pond is 7ft by 3ft by 2ft deep. and i have taken the exhausted ones out (2 of them) the rest are just swimming lively as if there looking for the other 2. but i am rearing towards that its love time for them.
irene also how long roughly should i separate them for? |

Hi
Are you intending to move the Fantails indoors over the winter? They aren't really suited to ponds as they can't take our cold winter temperatures. Also because of theri more rounded body shape, fancy goldfish like fantails will often be mercilessly hassled by common goldfish who are confused by their shape into thinking they are female and full of eggs. |

Shirley Aquatics had fantails in their pond section the last time I was there. At least they were described as such, is there such a thing as a twin tail common?
