I see... I have no idea what the food was made of... it doesn't write in ingredient. But I think it's not really good
So are there any veggies with high protein can be fed to the fish? However my male P.Sausolosi are rarely show their bright blue color, mostly black blue. Is it some kind of sickness or cause' of water quality? |

Nathan, they don't need high protein; they are adapted to extract protein from vegetable matter and microscopic crutaceans and so on that live in the algae they graze on in the wild (aufwuchs). Large amounts of protein are bad for them.
The best and safest foods for them are vegetable based. Spirulina, vegetable flake or pellets, fresh chopped spinach, lettuce, cucumber etc and occasional treats of live daphnia etc, but these must not be fed regularly, only a couple of times a week. Avoid brineshrimp, bloodworm and flake or pellets made for standard tropicals or for other cichlids as they are too risky. If they are dark and not showing full colour it will be due to stress of some kind: water quality, stocking density, diet, temperature, lack of hiding spots are the main potential culprits. |

Vegetable flake and pellet is impossible to find here :( I'll leave then hungry then let them eat the veggies. I'm also trying to make algae rocks, 2 days with fill lightning and CO2/liquid fertilizer but still no sign of algae yet. The water is from my trop tank
I think it's definitely temperature, I'm thinking about getting a chiller but I gotta save up alot. It's really hot these days and temp is 30C! really hot for these guys... |

Best way to get algae growing on rocks or stones is to put white stones or pebbles in a container of tank water and leave it out in the sun or on a bright windowsill. No need to do it in a tank, as natural daylight will promote algae growth much better. It may take a while to get a good growth, so have plenty on the go and once the fish have cleaned it off, put the stones back in the container to grow some more. If you time it all right you can have a constant supply.
If you starve them for a couple of days as has been suggested by Critch they will be more likely to accept the veggies. |

I have a bucket filled with tank water and pebbles. Will find a sunny spot and put it there! Thanks for the information =D
Should I keep on adding fertilizer and CO2? |

Its funny actually,
when i get back from my weekends away at the caravan, and walk towards the tank, all the fish come straight to the front to be fed. and the puffers in the kitchen, allways beg for food, they follow me when i am preparing stuff on the side, and sit and watch me feed the kids, looking at me saying come on feed us. |

The captivity has given all pet the ability to beg for food that most of us can't resist
![]() All my fish do the same... even the babies danios are begging for food. The only thing is all the fish in my most of my tanks beg food from all my family member. But the malawies only ask for food from me, they run to hide right away if anyone else put their hand in the tank. |
