Most Guppies in the shops are bred in poor conditions in the Far East and have become much less hardy in recent years due to these practices and serious inbreeding and are less tolerant than they once were. Many sicken easily as a result and current advice on them is quite different to that in even fairly recent books which remain static and can't take account of new knowledge.
Hermione is not yet mature, so shows no aggression - she could easily grow a further six inches before reaching maturity. The Angels could grow another two inches in length and more in height. I have other tanks ready and waiting for them when needed, but the advice on the caresheets is based around the fact that most people will only have one tank and that will need to be home for life for the fish placed in it. Often when fish are younger they can be combined in ways that are not possible when they reach maturity. Similiarly with Bettas - the majority do not suit a community situation, though some do. For clarity the best advice is not to try it. That would not apply in a situation where an additional tank was available to move one or other of the problem fish immediately if the situation arose. Photos aren't great for judging size and perspective, but she has a very large piece of bogwood with three separate areas larger than she is for hiding, plus rocks at the other end of the tank. I take your point about the Betta which had already been returned, and the fact that you are now prepared to upgrade for the Clowns should lay that to rest. The internet can be difficult as the intention behind what is written often doesn't come across well, and I'm sure no-one intended to cause offence. Bear in mind that there are a lot of variables in individual situations so the best advice we can give when those have not been made known to us is to state the safest conditions for the fish concerned. We get a lot of questions on the site and everyone who helps out on here by answering those questions does so in their own time, free of charge because they want to help. I hope you can see that we did not intend to upset you or cause offence ![]() |

OK, I see there have been more posts while I was typing so for now at least I'm going to lock the topic as this is not helping anyone.
