I have a 2 canary goldfish in my pond,,I noticed today that one of them is going browny black all along it's belly and it's tail is turning darker plus it's 2 front fins, the top fin is still normal,it is also brownish round the mouth,I have had a water test and that's fine, the other fish are fine, and even the one that's going brown on the underside is swimming about ok,could this just be a natural colour change in the fish,as I heard they can do this or is it some kind of disease, any suggestions would be really helpful, thank you

Hi
If he appears otherwise healthy and no other fish are affected then it's nothing to worry about. The natural colour of goldfish is an olive/brown colour and all the colours we usually see in them are a result of selective breeding. It's quite common for them to change colour as they age. ![]() |

I have experienced this before! It's might because of sunlight...
I pond used to have no hiding place for fish and most of my goldfish start to turn darker in color. This no longer happen as I buit a big hiding place for them |

Hi ponder
![]() Just to concur for your peace of mind, whilst UVA and UVB won't affect the fishies colour, its age can ![]() Most goldfish change colour unless you spend a 'lot' of money indeed on pedigree's for want of a better word! It's quite normal. Black burn marks, look very different, can be related to ammonia burns, which we see in smaller tanks sometimes, but if your water ammonia levels read nil in the pond, this will not be an issue at all ![]() |
