I came here for advice and my thread was closed after a few hours for no reason?
Anyway people in the thread criticised me for having an 8L bowl when I have a 45L bowl (nobody asked, just assumed i kept the same one since i last logged on in september) just after Christmas that homes two fish and I also have a small filter but I clean it myself monthly. Something someone said in the thread before it was closed is that I should get a foodsafe fish box, what are they? google only gives me links about unrelated things like fish and chips. both fish seem fine now after the accident thankfully! |

The thread was closed because there is no further advice that can be given other than that which was given before. The original thread advised that you needed to move the fish into a large 180L traditional shaped tank wih a filter. You were advised that taking the fish out and changing all the water is very bad for them. Your new thread said you were moving the bowl to take the fish out and clean it when you dropped it so it was logical that it was the same bowl. Maybe we shouldn't have assumed, but in truth bowl shaped containers for fish are not good homes and 45 litres is still woefully inadequate. You still seem to be taking the fish out and changing all of the water.
If you still can't get a decent tank then a food-safe box is a good temporary alternative. This was first advised back in September last year when you had so many deaths: Quote:
Unless the fish are moved to more suitably sized accomodation, with a suitably sized filter, with regular water testing and a proper partial water change regime carried out without removing the fish from the water there is little we can suggest when you have problems. I'm sorry, but trying to keep them in the way you have been doing just won't work long term. The small size of the bowl and its shape will cause the water to foul quickly. Changing all the water at once is very stressful for the fish - plus there's the risk of dropping them as happened last week. |

interesting, water weighs around a kilo a litre, you must have biceps like tree trunks to be able to move that, no wonder you dropped it.....

It isn't you trying to move it that is being questioned. Its the fact you keep ignoring the advice and continue to keep these fish in cruel conditions.

I think this is another troll post. I don't believe anyone who repeatedly asks such absurd questions and would apparently try to deadlift a smooth sphere weighing seven stone would get into any kind of university course, therefore I can only conclude they are posting comments to try and be comical or inflammatory. Yes simplyobsessed, the advisors were suggesting that you purchase fish and chip takeaway containers to house your goldfish. They are readily available online and you can easily link them together using superglue and staples to create a maze like environment for your fish.

Yep 1 litre of water ways 1 kilogram. 1 UK gallon is about 10 pounds (10.022 to be exact). My 800 ltre tank weighs 800kg with just the water. Water is heavy stuff. But remember that is fresh water, salt water is different and depends on several different factors including salinity levels etc.
