Hi everyone,
Operation is over and done, here are some pictures, it was all very very fast so only got a few: ![]() Wigglechu being anesthetized, took a good amount of time for him to go to sleep, the vet was just considering adding more and had turned away to get some when he keeled over and floated up. ![]() Operating table prepared, implements all laid out. (Also our kitchen table, Mr V not impressed) ![]() Chu on the operating table, lump being held in forceps. ![]() Snipping the lump off with scissors (my poor little baby :( ) ![]() And more, there was a lot of it. ![]() Lump removed. ![]() Chu and his lump, for size correlation. ![]() Cauterizing using heat. Imagine how this smells? Got it? Okay, it was actually worse than that. ![]() The removed lump. ![]() The other lump :) Took him a while to come back around, but when he did it was almost instant, from floating on his side to wiggling about. He still has portions of the lump remaining, it couldn't be fully removed as it was connected from the lower gill plate right down the fin. However the objective was to remove as much of it as possible to improve his swimming ability, and that's the best I could hope for, so while it's not 'cured' its 'greatly improved'. So overall, an (expensive) success! The lump was preserved and is being sent to a lab for analysis, so we can see what the long term prognosis is, and what, if anything, can be done - not for poor chu, but for any other fish in the future that may suffer from similar. |

Lump
That's a link to the lump after removal, linked because it's a bit gross! He's a bit subdued at the moment, but hopefully he'll come out of that. Blindchu is trying to keep him company (when he can see him). He should be able to move about a bit better now, however the root of the lump is still there, and plus the cauterisation has to be hurting as well :( |

Wow, some amazing pics there! Good thinking on taking the pics, I'd have been far too busy orbiting the ceiling to think of anything sensible like that! Hope he's feeling a bit brighter soon, well done you for giving him the best chance he's got
I doubt there's much some bloodworm won't cure as far as things being a bit sore go Got it all crossed here for you both ![]() |
