I know, it was fast wasn't it? He doesn't do things by halves - if he's going to have a tumour, it's going to be the biggest and ugliest one he can grow, and if we're going to remove it, well then by golly he'll grow it back twice as fast!

In the video there (I sort of lost concentration) you can also see my gold chu with the dodgy eyes - I had been watching him in the LFS for months convinced he had popeye, but he just has strange rings around his eyes. So I have a full 3/3 on faulty fish.

The seems to be rooted where the fin joins the body, and then spreads down along the fin, I think.

He's not using the fin but he seems to be using it for balance still - there doesn't seem to be any blood vessels going into the tumour, but there would be into the fin, so I'd be afraid of that.
He's still powering around the tank extremely well - he was sitting in the one spot in the video as that's the 'Food spot' so when he sees me, he goes straight there to beat the rush!

Argh, sorry to hear it's come back But he did have a bit of a new lease of life when you had it removed so that's something to be glad about Doesn't sound like he's lost much of his joie de vivre so far, maybe it'll stabilise a bit soon

Just thought I'd give an update on this. I got the vet out again to inspect the lump, he said he'd call back the next evening to operate.
Sadly poor chu gave up in the meantime, stopped swimming, developed clouding of both eyes, and very red gills. By the time the vet called over, we decided it would be best to let him go, as he most likely wouldn't have made it through the op anyway. So he was given a dose of anesthetic, then another dose a while later, and I left him overnight just to be sure.
Big thanks to the vet who stayed over two hours to be sure.

Sad experience, but at least I did the best I could for my poor little man.

I've since rescued a colossal oranda who is on his last fins as well, but I promise, after this, no more falling for the runts of the litter!

Big hugs Honey. So sad for you.

Awww, so sad but he had a lovely life with you and he was loved so much. You can rest assured that you did all you could and beyond, TBH.

Aw, sad news You couldn't have done any more though (and you did a lot more than a lot of people would have done ) so you have no reason to feel bad on that score

He had a great life with you, and you gave him a bit of extra time with the op

Fx for the new guy, hope he's better than you think

Sorry to hear about your loss.

For what it's worth, I always find that the runts, the rescues and hopeless cases are always the most endearing and have a much better life with people who care than they would otherwise.

This is from somebody who spends his life rescuing fat Ranchus that are hopeless swimmers who have gotten stuck in all manner of ornaments after being chased by randy males (and subsequently removed the ornaments!) and spent last night gently squeezing the trapped bubble on a bubble eye with swim bladder problems who got it sucked through and inside of a grille which covers a filter inlet, to push it back through the grille (and subsequently had to put mesh over the filter inlet). Ahh the hopeless cases, such sweethearts but much to learn about what scrapes they can get into :)

That's exactly how I feel about them! They just need help more than the normal ones, and they're less likely to get that help, so I always fall for it!

It's a steep learning curve with these little guys alright, hope your bubble eye is okay :/

So sorry he lost the war in the end, but he fought and won a fair few battles along the way. Very sad for you, though am sure that knowing he was given every chance and the best care possible is some comfort
