Wow. Silverfish, the photos of Chu's operation are amazing. I'm so glad to see him swimming around again - he's a dear little soul

Bit of white fluffiness where he was cauterised now, will treat that maybe with something topical. I was recommended Mercurochrome but it's a bit close to his gills to treat with sealant afterwards.

I had to move rescue fish (affectionately known as the Big Goomba ) over this evening as well, he has served his quarantine and wasn't really enjoying himself in the 100L with a bajillion snails. He was a bit scared of the Chus at first, and there's been some nuzzling, but hopefully he doesn't turn mean like Boo the other large chu who had to be sent back to the shop :(

These fish have my heart broken! I think when these guys go I'm just going to keep mice or something in the tank (minus water).

Oh and blindchu has a habit of picking up stones and dropping them on other fish he doesn't like, Big Goomba has already gotten three so far. For a blind fish he's a crack shot with the stones.

Results!

It's not sarcoma, so it seems to be benign. It's unlikely to kill him so that's something.
It seems to be fibrosis, (I googled that and got lots of pictures of lungs) so while it's not a definitive result and something I can treat outright, it's a good outcome overall. It may also be something he may build an immunity to, so it may reoccur less and less.

This was all over the phone, he said he'd write something up for me and send it on, so I should have more info in a few weeks. He's a very interesting person to listen to, I had the poor man on the phone for 40 minutes discussing fish farms and gara rufa spas and marine fish and all sorts, fascinating stuff.

That must be a massive relief for you SF. I'm pleased for you both.

Looks like his-royal-lumpyness will be around then for quite a bit longer. We love them though don't we warts an'all as they say!

Lumpy lumpy lumpy!

So annoying, why can't I pick out normal fish? The faultiest ones have the cutest faces.

I'll wait for it to get large again before I go for more surgery, between him and my sick mouse and hungry rabbit I'm financially bereft!

Oh no!! So sorry SF

Is the tumour rooted just to the fin, or partly to his body too? As he doesn't seem to be using the fin at all, is there an option to maybe remove the fin to stop the tumour recurring? Or would that upset balance/swimming ability etc. more than the tumour is?

Got all my fingers crossed for you that it doesn't get as bad this time x
