I just myxazin'ed him (and myself, and the coffee table) amid much flapping and splashing so hopefully that helps.

It's a little worrying as the lump is still there, there's just a chunk gone out of it, so I'll be setting up a divider in the tank tomorrow to give him some peace, and Mr V will pick up some iodine tomorrow.

Excellent work Nurse V Take comfort in the knowledge that your coffee table won't now develop any bacterial infections

Seriously though, sounds like you've done all you can for now, as long as his water's good and the wound doesn't seem to be infected I think it's just a bit of wait and see

Thanks Suey, I was in a right panic!

I'm wondering what the lump is now of course, it's definitely filled with solid tissue so some form of tumour? Hopefully something he can live with rather than something fatal :/

Regretting going mad and buying that new fish - if not for him I'd have a quarantine tank for poor chu!

Can't you set up a storage box for him to use as a qt?

Afraid not - I don't have a spare filter to put in one, and I'd rather keep him in a cycled tank for the moment just in case of an ammonia spike in a qt tank.

I melafixed and pimafixed the tank last night, and also dabbed on the myxazin - should I still add salt, or is that mixing meds?

I managed to get a divider in there too, to avoid any more nipping.

Also also I have the iodine now, should I switch from the myxazin to the iodine, or keep going with the myxazin?

Ouch, that does look a bit pink but it popping has no doubt alleviated some of the potential discomfort.

I've never used iodine personally as a dab-on topical solution, but AFAIK, mixing meds in the water column is a no-no as they often contain similar chemicals and the like, which can lead to accidental overdosing.

If you have applied one only 'topically' with say a cotton bud (the iodine), no real risk of that when adding one to the water stream (such as myaxin or the pimafix/melafix combo - obviously not all three!).

Goes without saying of course when wishing to use other water treatments, that carbon should be run for 24/48 hours then removed followed by a big water change, before trying a different one, to avoid the above. I too don't use salt so unable to advise on that

Is he still looking Ok otherwise? Eating and 'flappy' (to quote Suey's comment, I like that lol)?
