Oh dear, poor little fella I'm no vet but it sounds like some sort of tumour? Would it be worth contacting the vet that looked at Ronnie? I'm not really sure what else to suggest, it doesn't sound like something that medication will have much of an effect on It's good that he's being as normal as possible though, sounds like it's not making him feel ill as such, just annoying him a bit by getting in the way.

I'm really sorry to see things are still tough. Best wishes

Yup, going to phone the vet next week when the country returns to something resembling normal.

I know she's operated on fish tumours before, so hopefully she can do something for Chu, but it's in such an awkward place!

Okay, we're off to the vet - managed to get an appointment with the vet for Dublin Zoo. I'll singlehandedly pull the country out of the recession with what this will cost me.

He better not do a Ronnie

Good news that you managed to get an appointment I feel your pain over vet's bills though! I suppose on the up side his growth is external and not affecting any internal organs so hopefully his prospects are a a little brighter than Ronnie's were with his problems being internal/

Good luck, hope it goes well

Argh! He said he doesn't do fish unfortunately.

He did give me the number of a marine biologist even further away that might be able to help, or go back to Ronnie's vet, so I'll phone them tomorrow!

That is SO annoying letting you go all that way. Why do people do that, I've had similar before, not with fish but one of my dogs.
He had a problem with his claws falling out which my normal vet couldn't solve so i rang one of these specialist places, explained all the history and tests he'd had, drove all the way to Chester (about an hour away) on a red hot day in a car with no air con and a panting dog only for the specialist clinic vet to get me in a room and say they'd looked at all the test results from my current vet, and they were none the wiser either and couldn't advise me what it could be. Aaarghh!!!!
NOT amused

Anyway, my ranting is over....good luck with Chu, hope the other vet has a suggestion.

I hope so, I can't keep turning up to people clutching bags of fish going 'fix it!'

Did you ever get your dog sorted in the end? Sounds distressing :(

It was at the time, I kept finding claws on the carpet or finding them hanging off his feet at odd angles. After blood tests, bacterial cultures, operations to remove the hanging off claws and months of omega oil supplements (the only thing they could think of trying) it sort of resolved itself and they grew back.
He's no longer with us unfortunately but it was a nightmare, thank goodness he was insured

The things we go through for these animals - but they're worth it
