I think this will only work if the hood and lighting has been dismantled. In a contemporary designed tank such as a Juwel unit the hood will restrict air flow. The lighting will also add to the water temperature.

Marine chillers used to be very costly. Mine are cheap and nasty units made in China obtained from a supplier at surprisingly low cost. I bought them as I will be keeping native marines one day. I did think about selling them as hardly anyone else in the UK does, but want to test their reliability first. The heaters made by this company are not brilliant so I have some reservations.

It's just not right! Obviously I won't be saying that once my non-air con office has heated beyond all reasonable human endurance, I'm surrounded by fans (which I also detest) and I have to keep finding excuses to visit people in parts of the building that do have air con (1960s tower block, it's pretty random!). Current 'air con' at work consists of shouting across the room at my colleague to open the window I wonder if coming to work in one's bikini would be considered inappropriate

EDIT - this was @ psymongreen - bit of cross-posting going on here!

That explains why my method worked - no lights and no lid.

Not in my office.

The lady who keeps me supplied with tea is on annual leave. Therefore you're more than welcome to come and work for me for the next couple of weeks? :D

I actually used to do that back in the late '70s.....doesn't really fit with the classic image of the Civil Service does it

Thanks for the offer INJAF, you're all heart. I'll, umm, give it 'due consideration'

So ... about these tank temps then ...

Thank you, see - I'm not the only one! I find it a bit too Catch 22 that people resort to air con to counter the affects of global warming, thus contributing to global warming, thus requiring ever increasing amounts of air con etc. All right so that's a very simplistic view and I'm not about to get involved in a deep and meaningful discussion about the impact of fishkeeping on anything environmentally related!

we don't get any choice but to use the aircon - all the windows have been sealed shut! This means that when the aircon breaks on the hottest day of the year (which it does nearly every year without fail) we get cooked

Edit: But getting back on topic:

We will expect a full report on these coolers INJAF - and maybe a mates rates discount if they are good

No worries. The private sector does differ from the public sector somewhat though. You're expected to work for starters...

No striking if you don't get a 15% per annum pay rise etc....

Actually thats a topic for another thread!
