I hope you can help me, We just noticed this strange thing swimming around the tank. The other day I did a full water change and the we have only had the current 2 fish (fancy) for about 2 weeks, previously there were 2 goldfish living in the tank. We were unable to get a decent photo so hopefully the video should suffice.
It seems to have lots of little legs, 2 black eyes, a copper 'inside' with a jelly 'outside' and a black vein-type thing running through the jelly. Video is Here |

Welcome to FK
Wait what your keeping goldfish with what are they neon tetra's? Sorry I know nothing about the bug thing, but your fish are not ment to live together as goldfish are coldwater tetra's are tropical. Also just to add don't do 100% water changes do 20,25% weekly or 50% with ammonia present also you use dechlorinator? CB |

Hi thanks for the reply!
It's the first full water change I've done in a year. The other fish are just part of the tank background! :) I squirt something into the tank when I change the water but I've honesty no idea what! |

OHH thank god for that! Sorry jumped in a little there
![]() I will try and help you with advice on water changes, Do a 25% water change weekly and add 'tetra aquasafe' or likewise it makes the tap water safe for fish but make sure you get the right dose but it will tell you that on the bottle. If you are tight like me buy off eBay alot cheaper than shops plus saves you a journey. What are you adding to the water now ? EDIT: Tetra aquasafe is the brand its not only for tetra fish. CB |

Videos are always useful
Makes it much easier to see what it is.I think it could be one of these, in which case you need to get rid of it sharpish and probably treat your tank. Can you see any others in there? It's likely that it came in with the new fish, you might want to inform the shop you got it from in case they have any more hiding out. |

I also think it's as Fishy Fishy said, argulus fish louse, so the treatment would be something like Parazin - you can ring the manufacturers and get that by mail order if you can't get it in lfs Waterlife telephone/mail order

Well judging by the picture from google that's exactly what it is! And here was me thinking I had discovered an alien species! So the advice is pretty much get rid of it? It has attached itself to one of my fish's tails now!

Ooh, that aint good
they are parasites. You need to get rid ASAP using the stuff Cathie linked to. How confident are you about removing it from your fish? Have you handled fish before? |
