Hello all,
After the horrible death of my beloved fantail Reggie, Ronnie is now on his own in the tank. It's only a 110L tank but he seems to be constantly 'looking' for Reggie, so I think he needs a companion. I have another tank with 2 ranchus, and 2 orandas (they are babies and about 1/3 the size of Ronnie) and I'm wondering should I put one of these in with him? One of the Ranchus is blind ( poor blindchu) and seems to be losing the competition with the others for food. One of the orandas is painfully shy. The other two are what passes for normal. Which would be best to go in with Ronnie, or should I just leave him on his own? |

Oh no, I missed that Reggie had died - so sorry to hear that
![]() You could try him with the two 'normal' ones - they might prefer to have strength in numbers if they are smaller and at least they know each other If it doesn't work at least you can put them back in their own tank and maintain the status quo.On a different note, I used to have a blind goldie - the one in my avatar - we taught him to hand feed so we could make sure he got enough. Try holding some food in front of him (patience is the key here ... ) or putting some in front of him when he's rootling. Once he associates your hand with food there'll be no stopping him with any luck. |

Yes, poor Reggie - my face is still puffy from crying, and my OH isn't much better.
Still can't believe he's gone ![]() We'll try Ronnie with the two normal fishes tomorrow. I'm so terrified of doing anything wrong with my remaining fish that I'll probably be posting here for every little thing. |

Aw, post away to your heart's content
Don't be worried about asking stuff, better to ask and get a second opinion (and a third, fourth, fifth ) than to get it wrong ![]() FX for happy families tomorrow, give them a while to settle in, might take a day or two ![]() |

Well this was an interesting experiment!
Put one of the ranchus in first, Ronnie almost lost his life, the ranchu was way too boisterous for him. So we put the ranchu back and put in one of the orandas who took to Ronnie straight away, Ronnie was fascinated by his new friend, and they've been side by side since. So I hope this works out! |

They're still getting on great!
Today, Fat Tulip expelled a load of eggs too, that was a big surprise, for both me and her! |
