hi crunchie
im a builder and i would like to advise you will have no problems with a 48" tank in your flat just bear in mind that all floorboards lie across the floor joists that run from the outside/supporting walls so it would be best to situate your tank against a supporting wall so there wont be any stress to the centre of the joists hope this helps kind regards paul |

Thanks for the info small Paul, I went back to the company that sorted my mortgage and they reckoned it wouldn't have concrete flooring.
Feeling a bit put out as there was a 3' tank in my local paper which came out yesterday for a tenner. It wouldn't have been for the long run but it would have helped me grow them on a bit. |

small paul: that was to allay my fears of the floor collapsing - if you read my earlier post my housemate explained to me that the tank would weigh about the same as 3 or 4 of my friends...

if it helps, my fish room is upstairs, on one cabinet there are two 30x15x12 tanks, and two 24x12x12 tanks, the other side has two smaller tanks and 3 vivariums. so as long as you take floorboards and joists into consideration, shouldnt be a problem!

I'm currently watching a Juwel Rio 180 on ebay. Will this be two heavy do folk think? It has a cabinet intended for the tank as well.

In my living room I think next to my hamster cages.
![]() That'd be right next to a supporting wall and it can go either way across the floorboards. |
