I have always been told to check the Ph after the lights have been on for a few hours,so I check it after 8 hours. The ph is always 8.4.I decided to check it earlier this morning (2 hours after lights on)and the Ph was 7.8!!!!!!!.Do I have problems or is such a swing the norm?

A Day/Night pH swing is perfectly normal, though to the extent you are seeing I would be slightly concerned. 7.8 to 8.4 is quite a lot.
Can you give us a little bit more detail about your setup? |

Everyone gets swings , yours is fairly large , but i wouldn't worry too much about it.
There are ways to minimise it , but they involve having a sump and lots of macro algae. |
