Hi all
i just thought i would post a message on here as i was wondering if anyone with a pond, had purchased the new Hozelock ecopower + range filter boxes.Well my old Hozelock Cyprio 2200 filter box was tripping out my power indoors due to water getting into the top half where the uv is. So i thought it was time for a new one, i chose the eco power thinking that it was a better upgrade but i am having my doubts. The water in my pond has not really cleared and discovered that the top of the filter box lid was being pushed up and off which allowed dirt etc to creep up past the foam and back into the pond.Remember that the eco power works differently to the cyprio. The Cyprio sprays the water from the top.I contacted Hozelock in Birmingham, who were very pleasant, suggested that the problem may be because they had stored their filter box bottom halfs outside in the sun and they could have become warped and dont fit. They are going to send me a new box to try which was rather nice of them but we will see!!.Apparently i was the first person to call with this problem ??? lol.Well to cut a long story short any one else had this issue ??? i would be grateful if you have had and could let me know ta!!Well i repaired my old cyprio box and with fingers crossed its gonna do a better job. If i do get a replacement or refund i will go for the ecocel range or if someone could suggest a better one or advice i would be eternally grateful-i just love clear water
cheers

If the water is pushing the top off your filter box it sounds like you have the same problem as i did your pump is too powerfull for the filter . I didnt realize when i first bought my filter that i had to take into consideration the power of the pump , i popped the filter on to the pump i had been and the water rose above the filter sponge flooded the uv part and started to over flow the filter box .
Also check that your filter is a gravity one if your wanting to bury it below ground as not all filters can be placed in the ground .

hi Divine
i checked with hozelock, well they asked me what pump i was using and i told them it was a blagdon torrent 3000 and they seemed to be ok with thatas they recommend a triton 3000 to run with the ecopower +. As i managed to get my old filter box up and running -hozelock 2200 it seems to be ok and working like it has always done. Both filter boxes i have are gravity feeds but i think because the Hozelock ecopower + is fed from the bottom up through the foams it creates some pressure, so it may be a case of hozelock making tighter fitting box covers, as a few bricks sorted that for a while but thats not what i should have to do really. In the meantime i am still waiting for a new bottom filter box from Hozelock as promised but will probaly try to exchange it for an ecocel top feed filter box as i am not entirely confident about the eco power+ because even when the bricks were on top it did not clear the water very well or quickly after 4 days, they 2200 did it in two days. There you go!! thanks for replying we wait and see.

Hi i find the hoselock people to be very helpfull and wont try to make you buy bigger equipment than you actualy need .
But if you do feel you need a bigger filter i found this on ebay and it seems a excellent deal .

Could you tell me what size outlet you are running from the filter?

Also, did you use the staggered hosetail provided? If so, did you remember to cut it down to the maximum size?

At 3000 litres per hour, you should realisticly be using a minimum of 2inch, but I think the biggest outlet on a Hozelock filter is 1.5 inch, either way, make sure you are using the biggest outlet size possible.

hi Dale
the outlet is the large piping which is 2 inch?? the staggered outlet is being used but i have not cut it down because the smallest pipe is being used( same size on the pond pump)The filter is a ecopower + at 5000 litres an hour.Make any sense??

hi fred
with the ecopower + 5000 water is fed from the pond into the yellow virili tube and down to the bottom of the filter box, from there it comes back up through the foam and through the outlet just above above it. The ecocel range like its predecessors -e.g the cyprio 2200,water is fed onto the top of the foam where it soaks through it and then through the outlet-thats what i meant really lol!!Any way this seems to me a better way of filtering (ecocel)as there is no upward pressure forcing the lid off which is whats happening with mine
cheers

ps i dont think that the pump is too powerful and hozelock have agreed with this.

hi fred
yea ita been a learning curve.I did wonder for a minute what the drain hole was.i didnt realise til i looked at the manual at home that it filtered differently to my old filter, which incidently is up and running again. It took a bit of cleaning up by my mate dilligaff and it cleared the water in 24 hrs like it used to!!The ecopower + just wasnt doing it, it cleared a bit after three days even with the new bottom section which was still lifting off. So i took it back and will be waiting for a new one(updated version of my old one) to come in. I will have two filter boxes running hopefully side by side love that clear water mate
cheers
