I've read that putting a bottle of frozen water in the tank works. Would this harm the fish?

you cant rely rely on cooling a tank this way as its an emergency use only it can course temp fluctuations that are harmful to fish when using fans and chiller you have them connected to a thermostat that will control them coming on and of depending on temperature to keep it stable temp stability is the key really
