hi all
i need to knock my marysis filter off so i can remove the carbon in the media boxes, but when i do so, the level in the tank rockets towards the top and im afraid that it is going to overflow. is there anything else i should be doding . also im stil getting lots of micro bubbles from the water outlet on the overflow box, any ideas???
one other thing is that my tank has been up and running for 3 weeks now and i still have had nothing from the protein skimmer, all be it that i only have 1 clown fish in there who has a cotton wool fungus on him since day 1 of adding him to the tank, and 5 hermit crabs.

any info, suggestions and comments are always welcome...
look forward to hearing from you people

Hi Chops,

I can answer your question to the micro bubbles as I had a nightmare with this when i first had the tank. Check the overflow box and see the rate that it is going into your marysis filter system, you can adjust it, make sure it is fully open. Then check your level of the marysis if it is lower than the minimum then thats why your getting micro bubbles you need to top it up. By doing this pour your RO straight into the top of the tank and you will slowly see it rise and the micro bubbles shall disappear! Don't worry about the tank when you turn it off as it wont overflow as thats what the overflow box is there for when a power cut happens. So dont worry I keep mine on whilst im doing my carbon/filter wool change as I can get to it easily.

hope this helps,
Tash

hi tashy
i have my marysis filter at about an inch over the max mark at all times, but still the bubbles remain there.. really annoying. nhow do you adjust the water flow rate on the over flow box?
also you say ya can operate on the filter while the power is still running. is this right?
any suggestions on the protein skimmer?
please reply asap
thanks for the quick reply

Hey again Chops,

You are encountering exactly the same problems as I had when I first got the tank. Don't worry about the protein skimmer for now, out of curiousity how much live rock have you got in your tank? and when you purchased it was it cured or uncured? My protein skimmer hardly produced anything when I first had the tank as it had nothing to skim for 4 weeks until I transferred my fish over from my previous tank. That may be why you are having the same problem as it has not got alot to skim. I would not worry for now. hmmm interesting about your micro bubbles, well at the back of your overflow box right underneath it is a screw which you can turn and it opens up the tube in the overflow box. Try and have a mess around with that, if not drain some of your water out of your marysis and pour the water directly into the top of the tank (if you have not already tried this). In terms on messing with the filter whilst the power is still running it is probably not advisable lol. If you are just doing a quick change of the filter pads/carbon then I am sure turning off the power would be ok. I just dont like doing it incase it kills anything off as it takes me a good 20 minutes to do so.

I am no expert so I am sure that someone will come along and help you more, it will get sorted so do not worry.

Hope this helps,
Tash

Tash / Chops,

Not sure you are entirly correct?? The screw on the back of the overflow box is for leveling it agaisnt the back of the tank - it doesn't control the rate of water flow.
As for the microbubbles, the most common cause is too low a water level in the Marsiys filter sump - make sure it is above the black line mark on the side - to fill it up, do not fill up the tank, fill up the filter itself i.e. poor some water into the Marisys via the access hatch. If u still have bubbles then air is being sucked in somewhere after the pump - check all your connections from the pump in the Marisys up to the return nozzle and chech hoses for cracks - air must be getting in somewhere - low water level is to blame 9 out of 10 times (that's low water in the Marisys, not the actual tank)
My skimmer took a few weeks to really get going - check your airstone is producing enough bubbles in the tube within the Marisys - u should be getting some bubbles that come up into the collecting cup but not loads...

Hope that helps,

Jim

There you go chops, told you someone would come along and help more :) actually jim if you have a look at the screw underneath the overflow box it does actually adjust the amount the water flows down into the marysis system it narrows the piping, if you can get high enough to look that is... and If you have already had a go at pouring it into the marysis directly (which I did and got it up to the maximum level and it did not help the micro bubbles) then you could have a go at pouring it straight into the tank from the top. Jim had the same issue as me that the skimmer works better over a period of weeks. Hope you get it sorted chops :)

Hello everybody!
Well, it's been nearly 20 years since my last attempt but this thread has convinced me: it is time to get an aquamarine 900 and give marine tanks a new try!

I'll be back after the weekend with a zillion questions :)

Cheers,
Mattias
