Re: Freshwater Shrimp #21
*UPDATE*

Just keeping a diary, hope you all don't mind!

I've tested the water again today, and to my amazement the nitrIte is now down to 0, along with the ammonia! This seems way too quick for the cycle, so I'm going to continue to test for the rest of the week and see if it was an anomaly in testing...

Other than that, the Java fern is sprouting a baby - from the tip of one leaf(!), the cryptos are going through a bit of a melt, so may need to feed them shortly (thanks to advice on here!), snails and micro critters seem to be getting on well, all I need now are shrimps!!

Re: Freshwater Shrimp #22
Glad it's all progessing well My java ferns have lots of babies which is great - you can just pull them off and push them into the gravel or tie them onto the wood or whatever the fern is attached to.

Ok, update time!

Been to the LFS today. Not really 'L' as it's in Derbyshire, but anyway...

Got 8 cherry reds, and was very tempted by the galaxy rasboas in the shop too, but resisted!

Just acclimatising them now, here's some pics!

I'm not sure how you post videos from photobucket, so here's a youtube of them in the tank too:

Hmm, that video failed to load, here's the second attempt:

Thanks for comments! Yes, very pleased with it, but I can see how MTS strikes aquarists, I want a new tank and try a different aquascape! Some of the ones you guys have done are brilliant!

I was wandering round LFSs today looking at other stuff I can put in my 'Shrimp only' tank..hee hee. I'm thinking about some rasbosas, maybe galaxy? I want something tiny to go in, maybe 3 or 4. I don't want them to eat any potential shrimplets though.

Thanks to you guys for all the help so far, couldn't have done it without you!!

Re: Freshwater Shrimp #30
It's looking great I'm no tropical expert but I'm not sure anyone on here would be comfortable with recommending fish for such a small body of water Galaxy rasboras had a bit of a rough ride as they were wild caught and the natural populations got massively over-fished for the pet trade

http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=2698

Other googling gives a slightly more woeful account of the current natural population
