Advice on cracks in aquarium glass #1
hi again. So just setting up a second hand Jewel 240 Rio, when i noticed some scratches/slight spidery cracks in one of the side panels. I saw the tank full of water so it wasn't leaking then, but i am obviously concerned and wondering what i should do. I am worried that they will get worse, do i need to be looking at another tank or can that be mended?? Any thoughts please.

How deep are they? Are they just surface scratches or are they more like shallow cracks? If they're cracks I'd be very worried that the tank will fail at some point. You could strengthen the area by getting a piece of 6mm float glass cut to a couple of inches larger than the damaged area and siliconing in place. That should make it safe, but I can't guarantee it.

Thanks Fishlady. When i run my fingers over them i can't feel a crack in the glass at all, it was just the spidery look of them that made me feel uncomfortable. I think i will go with the 6mm float glass idea.. where is the best place to get that from.

You'll need to find a local glazier for that.
