Im here again!! I am hoping someone can tell me in detail exactly what I need to do to move my fish from the old tank into new larger tank. I have had some good advice of here but also have made the mistake of looking at too many websites and I now am sooooo confused about how to do this, I dont want to make any mistakes that will kill my fish and they all say different things so Im not sure which is the right advice.
ive read i should do fishless cycle of new tank first. Ive read to just move filter, gravel, plants etc and then fish and top up with new water. Ive read to just transfer 1 fish at a time. Ive read so much stuff im so confused, im stressed out about moving them. I have 2 Platys 3 Zeb Danios 1 Hong Kong Plec 2 Apple Snails 2 Clams 1 Ghost Shrimp. My new tank (84L) has been set up a week now, is same temp as old one. If someone could spell it out for me the best way to do this it would help a lot. Sorry Fishlady if you have to advise me yet again ![]() thanks |

Hi
Put all the media from the existing filter into the new filter and move the fish across all at once. You then have the same mount of bacteria, the same number of fish, but more water volume so as long as the current filter is cycled this should prevent any "new tank syndrome" in the new tank. Add the Platy fry after another 2-3 weeks or when large enough if that takes longer. You would only do a fishless cycle first, or move the fish gradually to conduct a fish in cycle if you were unable to use the existing filter media to create an "instant cycle". HTH ![]() |
